1- Know, admit and share, why you are presenting today!
As a start we get lost between delivering the real message and saying what comes to our heads. Knowing the aim of the presentation and sharing it with your audience keep you focused and give them a way to help you do that.
Do I need to inform them something? “To inform”
Should they go home inspired? “To inspire”
Are we here to have fun? “To entertain”
Would they buy my idea/product? “To persuade”
To inform, to inspire, to entertain or to persuade are the main four categories why you would make a presentation. If you got more that help us create a winning presentation tell us in the comments.
2- Your audience needs come first.
The fact you got the chance to stand in front of a group of people and lead them for a certain amount of time, makes you responsible for their time, brains and emotions.
Being honest about your content and the benefits they should get is highly important. Being aware of their needs and why they decided to join you and listen to what you got to say. Focusing on their reactions and clarifying any obstacles. Finally what are the key messages here, at least three key points should be taken away!
Remember you nail a presentation when you reach your audience.
3- Communicate using your body.
Body language is responsible for 55% of what we communicate while presenting, no pressure here but you need to understand it’s highly important to use your body parts effectively.
To keep their attention, don’t lose connection!
Don’t give them your back and make sure to look them in the eye every now and then. Your face expression is super important…..How you open your eyes when you are excited. How you raise your eye brows when you are saying something surprising. The way you smile to make them feel welcomed.
Even your tone of voice, when it should be low, and when it should be high and sharp as you are reaching the peak of your story.
Use your arm and don’t you dare cross them, this show that you are uncomfortable and don’t want to be there. Head up with your arms and uncrossed leg to show openness.
The last thing in this point, yes you should be leading the room and yes you are brave to stand their sharing information and experience but try not to do power poses. It’s distracting and shows aggression.
4- Content is the king, even while presenting.
Content is the core of your presentation, it’s what your audience here to take away home.
A lot of people spend much effort and time over the slide show itself that they forget it just a tool that help them delver their point. May be its popular but try not reading from the slide itself. Keep it simple with minimum text and more pictures and graphics.
Don’t add content unless it supports your point……Here I’m not talking about the slides only but even your words, games and explanation tools like video and pictures these cause people in the room to get lost and lose focuses.
You can prepare a dedicated handout to guide them through presentation and may share with them files that contain more clear points and link to check it later but don’t give your PowerPoint presentation as it won’t be clear and it’s made to support your speech.
5- Backup your argument to nail a presentation and own it.
Our brains are smart so they should be convinced to stay tuned in your effective presentation, if you keep talking with no proves or alybies to support your topic, you will lose your audience attention and believe in your message. Back to the main thing we need to understand from this article, mentioning statistics and numbers, historical evidence or scientific proofs support your presentation and the goal out of it. we at Premast designed infographic slides that support presenting your information.
Another advice; make a logical structure ……. In order to back up your argument you need to build up your information so it makes sense to the attendees. Staying focus moving from a start to a middle jumping to the end with organized thoughts and a clear conclusion that rape up your goal is crucial.
These tips are just guidelines that help you to show your wowness, and remember, the fact you are reading this means you got it already, we mean you are a researcher ;).
